What is

SSL

?

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the most widely used security protocol on the Internet. It is a technology that establishes an encrypted link between a server and a client, ensuring that all data passed between them remains private and secure. It works by verifying the identity of each end using digital certificates issued by Certificate Authorities, to ensure secure communication between the two. SSL is mainly used for e-commerce websites to ensure safe online transactions for their customers. It can also be used to secure email servers, webmail services, instant messaging applications and other online communication services. Additionally, SSL helps protect against cyber attacks as it provides encryption and authentication capabilities that help prevent unauthorized access to sensitive information. By providing data encryption and authentication measures, SSL can help protect organizations from malicious attempts to compromise networks or harvest data.
