802.1x is an authentication protocol used for network access control. It allows users to be authenticated before being allowed connection to a local area network (LAN). It helps ensure only authorized users can gain access, protecting the network from malicious activity or data loss. To use 802.1x, devices must support the protocol and have an authentication server in place. The device attempting to connect sends credentials which are verified against those stored on the authentication server before granting access.

Faas means Firewall as a Service. You can use the firewall as a hardware appliance (physical computer in your network), as a virtual appliance (still a computer, but it's running in the cloud), or you can pay for a firewall as a service. It means you are not responsible for the firewall itself. Instead, your provider is making sure it's running and secure; you are just specifying what it should be doing. An example is Azure Firewall.

Allowlist is a tool used to protect digital assets and networks. It blocks malicious activity by creating a list of known safe IP addresses, domains and URLs that are authorized to access the network. This helps prevent unauthorized access, phishing attacks and malicious software downloads. By allowing only trusted sources into the system, organizations can safely manage their cyber security risks. Allowlist/Whitelist is easy to use - it just requires setting up an allowlist policy within the system's firewall.
